| The overnight cloud cover is dissipating and we are expecting clear skies this morning. The afternoon may see some cloud cover returning over the valley, but remain clear up high as the new weather system approaches. It is a system coming from the South and will bring warmer air masses and precipitation – likely rain down below tomorrow, hopefully snow higher up.In the valley this morning it is -2.5 C and expected to reach upto 8 C. Up on the resorts it will range from -1 C to 3 C near the bottom of the slopes and -3 C to -6 C up high. The freezing level is on its way up and will reach 1450m in the day creating soft snow conditions. Winds are Light and will flow from the SSW and SSE.
Tonight the freezing level is expected to rise to 1900m and will continue to rise through Thursday peaking at around 2450m. It will remain cloudy until the evening when we will start to see clearings for Friday. Cloudy periods will be mixed with clearings through the weekend with freezing levels lowering. By Monday we will again see clear skies and colder conditions. |

| Good morning sunshine!! Today`s sunshiny weather is brought to you by yesterday`s clear skies and google tans. We are expecting the sun to stick around all day today providing great visibility and beautiful views.
It is currently -5 C and will warm to 0 C down near the valley and range from -8 C to -13 C up high on the resorts with a wind chill of -21 C. Winds are light at 2 m/s from the WSW and SSW. The freezing level will rise to 700m today and the solar radiation will affected the snow on the slopes with the most exposure.
No new snow has fallen as we have had mostly clear skies and this trend will continue with some cloudy patches through Wednesday. Freezing levels are projected to rise with a new weather system pushing its way in on Thursday.
Get it while it`s good. |

| Well today has so far been a fine day. Lots of blue sky and varying amount of cloud up there but generally very bright and great visibility out there. It was very cold overnight last night (down into minus double figures even down at village) but has since warmed up and it is about -2 degrees now this early afternoon.Tomorrow looks set to be a clear and sunny one, perhaps with less of the remaining cloud that we have today and it might get milder too venturing into positive number territory. Shouldn’t be as cold tonight as well. We should actually see our fair share of the sun this coming week, especially in the first half and it will remain mild as well – look for Wednesday and Thursday to be the warmest for a while before hopefully things getting colder for next weekend. |

| Snow! Good morning from a Hakuba that has received a decent layer of new snow (10-15cm lower down) and in places considerably more. Check out the numbers from Cortina again who continue to impress with a whopping 65cm of fresh snow being reported by that resort in places – unfortunately at the time of writing many of the fun courses over there are not open but that may change later on (check with the resort if you are keen).
It was snowing earlier on this morning still but has eased off somewhat now in lower areas. It’s a very cold -6 degrees at base today and considerably colder up top as well, so you’ll need to be wrapped up good. Visibility isn’t too bad looking round the resorts considering the conditions and while there’s always the chance of some wind causing problems with issues, things seem pretty smooth at the moment. Goryu delayed the opening of their Gondola and top lifts but they are moving now.
Those sticking around for tomorrow should be in for a treat as it looks like we can expect bright and sunny skies so it will be a real contrast with today. Actually it looks like we will see a few days of clear conditions and then warmer temperatures come Wednesday and Thursday.
Have fun if you go to the Happo Fire Festival tonight (details posted yesterday). And indeed, if you don’t too! |

| The colder temperatures stay with us overnight and today and it is currently -5 degrees in Hakuba. Some more snow overnight with resorts around town reporting between 5cm and 30cm (Cortina!) this morning, so should be some good conditions out there this morning. We will likely see cloudy conditions with a chance of light snowfall continue into tomorrow but it does still look like the clouds could clear up leaving us with a fine Sunday. This morning we saw some light snow falling earlier on but it has generally been a cloudy one since then in the village at least with the sun peeking through the clouds from time to time in places.
Milder temperatures once again forecast from Sunday into early next week and it does look like it is oging to be quite a dry one, certainly the first half.
It’s the 42nd Happo-one Fire Festival tomorrow – it will be taking place at a specially-prepared area over on the Nakiyama slope area of Happo. Expect an opening ceremony, free sake if you are lucky, taiko drums, torchlight skiers and fireworks. And most likely more! It starts at 7pm so don’t be late. To celebrate the resort (Happo-one) is offering discounted one-day lift tickets as well for just tomorrow – 500 yen off the normal price for both adults and children. |
